AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Wayne State University baseball team racked up a combined 22 runs on 22 hits to roll past Wayne State College in a two-game sweep on Friday night in The Sunshine State. Next up, the Warriors will be off on Saturday before a doubleheader against Sioux Falls on Sunday beginning at 9:45 a.m.
GAME ONE RECAP
Karter Fitzpatrick (Monroe, Mich. / Carleton Airport) was brilliant on the bump in game one improving to 3-0 after 6.1 scoreless innings pitched (84 pitches), three hits allowed, only one walk, and nine strikeouts.
Mitchell Mychajluk (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) handed the final two-thirds of a frame and did so without surrendering a hit.
Offensively, seven different Warriors tallied a hit and one more scored a run while
Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and
Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland) (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) each finished with multiple base knocks.
Extra-base wise,
Brett Zimmerman (Frankfort, Mich. / Frankfort) notched a triple in the third and
Noah Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett) doubled in the in the fifth.
GAME TWO RECAP
Wayne State's offense stayed hot in the nightcap putting up 14 more runs and it started at the top with
Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline) who went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and four batted in.
Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB) and
Bennett Hitzelberger (Richmond, Mich. / Richmond) (2-for-3, 3 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB) were the other Warriors with multiple hits while eight collected a hit overall.
Six pitchers saw time for WSU, but
Brennan Cox (Taylor, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard) was the most effective as the first arm out of the bullpen and improving to 2-0. Cox finished with 2.1 innings of work, only one hit allowed, no free passes, and five punchouts on 32 pitches.
