Warriors Bash Cardinals for Fifth Win in a Row

The GLIAC Player of the Week, Chris Tanderys, hit a three-run homerun in the third inning.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball team (17-4 overall, 5-0 GLIAC) fell behind 2-0 for the second game in a row, this time against Saginaw Valley State (10-12 overall, 2-3 GLIAC), but responded in emphatic fashion just like Sunday. The Warriors went on to blow past the Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon, 11-2, winning their fifth game in a row and 11th in their last 12. Next up, WSU will be at Grand Valley State on Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Starting on the mound, Griffin Kilander (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) improved to 4-1 with seven strong innings pitched. Kilander gave up two runs, only one earned, on seven hits with one walk and a strikeout. In relief, Kaden Stively (Washington, Mich. / Romeo) didn't surrender a hit in an inning and two-thirds before TJ McAllister (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / South Lake) handled the final third of a frame.

Offensively, Wayne State scored two runs in the first, three in the third, four in the seventh, and two more in the eighth. Five Warriors registered a hit led by Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland) who was 4-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBI and a three-run homerun in the seventh.
