Wayne State Takes Two from Ohio Dominican

The Warriors scored 17 runs on 17 hits to sweep the double dip.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (4-1 overall) ran its winning streak to four on Sunday thanks to a doubleheader sweep against Ohio Dominican (3-5 overall), 9-2 and 8-3. These two teams will play for a third and fourth time on Monday at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn. at 11:20 a.m. and right after.

GAME ONE RECAP
Wayne State turned to Karter Fitzpatrick (Monroe, Mich. / Carleton Airport) in game one and the 6-5 right-hander delivered. Fitzpatrick (2-0) lasted six innings with two runs surrendered, only one earned, on six hits to go with nine strikeouts (one off career high) and just one walk.

In relief, Hector Jaimes (Trenton, Mich. / Detroit Western International) made his first-career appearance with two punchouts in a spotless seventh.

Seven different Warriors collected a hit paced by Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland) (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) (1-for-2, 1 R, 4 RBI) and Brett Zimmerman (Frankfort, Mich. / Frankfort) (1-for-3, 2 RBI). DeLanoy and Zimmerman each collected a double while Ramirez went deep with a three-run homer in the sixth.

GAME TWO RECAP
On the bump, Ryan Korolden (Yale, Mich. / Yale) (1-1) bounced back from his first start with six one-run frames (unearned), only three hits allowed, no walks, and five strikeouts.

Out of the bullpen, Cam Rosen (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter), Mitchell Mychajluk (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) and Ryan Szlachcic (Jenison, Mich. / Hudsonville) handled the final frame.

Offensively, Wayne State led from the first inning to the end with a run in the first, another in the third, one in the fifth, and a five spot to blow it open in the sixth. Six of the Warriors nine hits came from the top four spots in the lineup (6-of-14) in the form of Ryan Foley (1-for-4, 2 RBI), Noah Miller (2-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB), DeLanoy (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI), and Ramirez (1-for-3, 1 RBI).

Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline), Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett), DeLanoy, and Ramirez were joined in the hit department by CJ Maury (Brampton, Ont. / Mayfield SS) (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Mason McGuire (Lyon Twp., Mich. / Brighton) (1-for-3, 1 R). Extra-bases wise, Maury registered a double in the sixth, Miller homered in the third and DeLanoy went deep in the sixth.
