Wayne State Completes Four-Game Sweep of Ohio Dominican

Brennan Cox picked up his first win of the season on Monday with 3.1 scoreless innings.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (6-1 overall) pulled off the four-game sweep of Ohio Dominican (3-7 overall) on Monday after scores of 14-3 in game one and 5-1 in the nightcap. For the series, the Warriors outscored the Panthers 36-9 with a team .321 batting average (36-for-112) and 1.93 ERA (.179 batting average against).

GAME ONE RECAP
Wayne State's offense exploded for 14 runs on 13 hits in game one and led by as many as 11 on two occasions including 12-1 and 14-3. Four batters registered multiple hits paced by Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland) who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, four RBI, one walk, a pair of doubles, and solo homerun in the fifth.

Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline) went 2-for-3 (3 R, 1 BB) in the leadoff spot, Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) was 3-for-5 (1 R, 1 RBI) in the five hole, and CJ Maury (Brampton, Ont. / Mayfield SS) had two hits in four at-bats (1 R, 2 RBI) down at the nine slot.

Seth Marano (Canton, Mich. / Canton) received a no decision after three innings of one-run ball (unearned) with four strikeouts and only one walk before giving way to the winner, Ashton Potts (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson). Making his first appearance as a Warrior, Potts (1-0) didn't surrender a hit in an inning and a third with two punchouts and no free passes.

After those two, Jimmy Love (Birmingham, Mich. / Seaholm) threw a third and TJ McAllister (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / South Lake) handled the final 2.1 frames in his first career outing.

GAME TWO RECAP
In Wayne State's lowest scoring affair thus far this season, the Warriors still took care of business, 5-1, to finish the sweep. The effort started with a trio of hurlers that combined for just one earned run allowed, eight punchouts and two free passes.

Griffin Kilander (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) started with 2.1 innings pitched (1 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO) before Brennan Cox (Taylor, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard) threw three and a third (2 H, 0 BB, 5 S0), and Chad Sommers (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) wrapped up the series with 1.1 frames (0 H, 0 BB, 2 SO).

Offensively, trailing 1-0, Wayne State put up a three spot in the fourth starting with Tanderys doubling in a pair in Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) and DeLanoy. Then, two batters later, Tanderys scored on Mason McGuire's (Lyon Twp., Mich. / Brighton) groundout double play. Two innings later, the lead grew to 5-1 thanks to Tony Hatzigeorgiou's (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford) sacrifice fly to right scoring Ramirez along with Tanderys on a throwing error by the catcher.

Next up for WSU is the RussMatt Invitational with seven games in six days down in Florida beginning on Wednesday against Minnesota Duluth.
