Wayne State Sweeps Saturday Twin Bill Against Parkside

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball team (33-9 overall, 19-5 GLIAC) took care of business on Saturday sweeping a doubleheader against Parkside (10-31 overall, 3-22 GLIAC) thanks to scores of 7-1 and 7-2. Next up, the Warriors and Rangers will finish their season series on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Harwell Field.

GAME ONE RECAP
Karter Fitzpatrick (Monroe, Mich. / Carleton Airport) improved to 8-1 in game one while going the distance for the sixth time this season. Fitzpatrick gave up one earned run on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts, lowering his season ERA to 2.40 in the process. That mark is good for third in the GLIAC, right behind his teammate, Ryan Korolden (Yale, Mich. / Yale), in second with a 2.24.

Offensively, Wayne State scored one run in the first, two in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and another in the sixth.

CJ Maury (Brampton, Ont. / Mayfield SS), Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland) and Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) each scored multiple runs while Ramirez and Mason McGuire (Lyon Twp., Mich. / Brighton) registered two hits apiece.

RBI wise, Ramirez brought in three to go with Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson), McGuire and Bennett Hitzelberger (Richmond, Mich. / Richmond) responsible for on each.

GAME TWO RECAP
In the nightcap, Seth Marano (Canton, Mich. / Canton) was the starter and he improved to 5-1 with seven scoreless frames, five hits, two free passes, and seven punchouts.

Out of the bullpen, David Thurman (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Edison) handled the final inning and two-thirds before Ashton Potts (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) took care of the final out.

Four Warriors finished with multiple hits including Maury (3-for-4, 1 R), DeLanoy (3-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI), Tanderys (2-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI), and Hitzelberger (2-for-4, 1 RBI). DeLanoy and Tanderys each hit a solo home run, their fifth and seventh of the season, respectively.
