Football Spring Game Recap

DETROIT -- The Green squad claimed a 16-14 triumph over the White team in the annual Spring Game held at Tom Adams Field earlier this month.

Maxx Fisher connected on a 36-yard field goal attempt on the game's final play rallying the Green team from a 14-7 deficit into the 16-14 victory.

Cole Canter of the Green squad completed 10-of-13 passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns, while back-up Caleb Green was 1-of-2 for five yards.

Dion Brown, Jr. led the Green team with four receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown, while both tight ends - Tommy Guajardo and Kaveon Ross - each had two receptions.  Guajardo totaled 21 receiving yards, while Ross had 14 receiving yards, including a five-yard touchdown catch.  Darrin King II, Chandler Edwards and D'Marco Singleton each had one reception.

Edwards led the Green squad with 58 rushing yards on three attempts, including a 44-yard jaunt.  Singleton had a game-high 11 rushing attempts for 35 yards.  Kendall Williams had one attempt for 21 yards, while Brayden McKenna totaled 11 yards on two carries.

The Green team recorded 197 yards of total offense (111 rushing and 86 passing) on 39 offensive plays, while the White squad generated 179 yards of offense (67 rushing and 112 passing) on 31 plays from scrimmage.

Eli McLean and Josh Kulka served as the signal callers for the White squad.  McLean completed 7-of-8 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown, while Kulka was 3-of-7 for 19 yards.

Elliot Dangerfield, Jr. notched a game-best five receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown, while Max Nicklin hauled in three passes for 36 yards.  Manny Harris (33 yards) and John Rayba (3 yards) each had one catch.

Te'Avion Warren led the White team with seven carries for 35 yards, while McLean added 17 yards on five attempts and Jeremiah Sterling, Jr. contributed 15 yards on four rushing attempts, including a touchdown.

Defensively, the Warriors notched six sacks on the day.  In the secondary, Gamon Howard and Dalen Peeks were solid performers, while Carl Ware was a pleasant surprise at linebacker.  Matt Buschman was solid as well.  Up font, Niko Mosley and Colby Horn played at a high level.

"McKinley Underwood did some solid things over the spring," according to defensive coordinator Thomas Sims.  "Gus Taylor was solid throughout the spring and Donte Reed had a solid spring game."

Wayne State will report to fall camp in early August in preparation for the season opener on September 2nd at Slippery Rock.
