HAMMOND, Ind. -- Purdue Northwest (6-17 overall, 2-7 GLIAC) came back from an 8-2 deficit on Thursday to defeat the Wayne State University baseball team (21-4 overall, 9-1 GLIAC), 10-8. The Pride handed the Warriors their first league loss of the season and broke their nine-game winning streak. Next up, these two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday with the first pitch in game one slated for 2 p.m. eastern time.
Starting pitcher,
Kaden Stively (Washington, Mich. / Romeo), lasted 4.2 innings while giving up five earned runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts on 89 pitches.
Stively then gave way to four bullpen arms including
David Thurman (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Edison) with a third of an inning (2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 K),
Ryan Szlachcic (Jenison, Mich. / Hudsonville) for two-thirds (1 H, 1 ER),
Chad Sommers (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) with two frames (2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K), and
TJ McAllister (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / South Lake) for the final out (1 H).
Sommers was saddled with the loss, his first of the spring (2-1).
Offensively for WSU, three players registered multiple hits including
