Warriors Pour It On Offensively in Two-Game Sweep of the Pride

Rudy Ramirez (pictured) racked up seven RBI in game two thanks in part to a pair of bases-loaded triples.

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The No. 12 Wayne State University baseball team (23-4 overall, 11-1 GLIAC) slugged its way to a pair of wins at Purdue Northwest (6-19 overall, 2-9 GLIAC) on Friday, 9-4 and 22-6. Next up, the Warriors and Pride will finish their four-game set on Saturday with the first pitch in a nine-inning game scheduled for 1 p.m. eastern time.

GAME ONE RECAP
Karter Fitzpatrick (Monroe, Mich. / Carleton Airport) went the distance for the third time in as many starts while improving to 6-0 on the season. Fitzpatrick gave up four earned runs on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts through a season-high 105 pitches. The right-hander's spring ERA now sits at 2.06, which is good for second in the league.

Offensively, Wayne State scored one run in the second inning, six in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Three players brought in a pair of RBI including CJ Maury (Brampton, Ont. / Mayfield SS), Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) and Noah Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett) while Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline), Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland) and Brett Zimmerman (Frankfort, Mich. / Frankfort) added one batted in each.

Maury, Tanderys, Miller, DeLanoy, and Zimmerman were joined in the hit column by Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) along with seven different Warriors scoring a run, including two each for Ramirez and Bennett Hitzelberger (Richmond, Mich. / Richmond).

GAME TWO RECAP
The Wayne State offense exploded for a season-high 22 runs, the program's most since scoring 23 against Purdue Northwest last season on April 29. The Warriors racked up that total in Friday's nightcap with three in the first, three in the second, four in the fourth, three in the fifth, four in the sixth, and five in the seventh.

At the forefront of that offensive onslaught was Ramirez who went 4-for-5 with five runs scored, seven RBI, one walk, two bases-loaded triples, and an RBI double. The left fielder was one of five Warriors with multiple hits along with DeLanoy (3-for-4, 5 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB), Tanderys (3-for-6, 1 R, 4 RBI, 1 BB), Hitzelberger (3-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB), and Logan Van Sicklen (Waterford Twp., Mich. / Waterford Kettering) (2-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI).

Seth Marano (Canton, Mich. / Canton) improved to 3-0 with six innings pitched, three earned runs surrendered on six hits, one free pass and four punchouts. Out of the bullpen, Cam Rosen (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter), Mitchell Mychajluk (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) and Jimmy Love (Birmingham, Mich. / Seaholm) threw one inning apiece to close out the twinbill.
