Warriors fall 4-1 and 8-0.

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Wayne State University softball squad (11-15 overall, 1-5 GLIAC) was finally able to play at Purdue Northwest (21-13 overall, 5-3 GLIAC) Thursday afternoon after two rain outs in the last five days.  The host Pride won the opener 4-1, then took the nightcap 8-0 in six innings.

GAME ONE RECAP
The game was scoreless for the first three-and-a-half innings until PNW's Jessica DeBoer hit an 0-1 offering over the left-center field fence leading off the bottom of the fourth.  Two singles sandwiched around a walk and wild pitch produced the Pride's second run.  With one out, Darcy Barkauskas had an RBI single and two batters later Aubrey Shroyer walked with the bases loaded to complete the scoring for the home team.

The Warriors lone run was a solo home run leading off the top of the seventh by senior third baseman Taryn Peru (Bath, Mich.).  It was Peru's team-leading fifth round-tripper of the season.

IN THE CIRCLE

PNW scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first, and then extended its lead on a safety squeeze in the second.  The Pride tacked on three runs in the third, but on a home run by DeBoer was earned.
