Cross Country Squads Unveil 2023 Schedule

The Warriors will open their season on Friday, Sept. 1 at the SC4 Skippers Showcase.

DETROIT -- Wayne State University cross country head coach, Grant Lofdahl, and his programs have unveiled their schedule for the 2023 season. The Warriors are slated to compete in five regular season meets, the first of which is the St. Clair County Community College Skippers Cross Country Showcase on Friday, Sept. 1 at Goodells County Park in Goodells, Mich.

WSU will then host the Warrior Challenge on Friday, Sept. 15 at Willow Metropark in New Boston, Mich. Wayne State's three regular season events following that one include the Parkside Rosa Invite on Saturday, Sept. 23 (Wayne E. Dannehl National XC Course - Kenosha, Wis.), the Lewis Crossover on Saturday, Oct. 7 (Lewis XC Course - Romeoville, Ill.) and the Muskegon Invite on Saturday, Oct. 14 (University Park Golf Course - Muskegon, Mich.).

The comes the postseason, which includes the GLIAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 21 (MTU Tech Trails - Houghton, Mich.), the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday, Nov. 4 (Angel Mounds - Evansville, Ind.) and pending qualification, the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18. (Tom Rutledge XC Course - Joplin, Mo.).

"We are excited to have two meets near Detroit to begin the upcoming season, including the Skippers Showcase at Goodells and our own Warrior Challenge in New Boston," said Lofdahl. "It will be great for fans, family members, alumni, and supporters to have two opportunities to see our student-athletes compete after only a short drive from Midtown. The Parkside and Lewis meets will both provide great competition for us and should help us bolster our resume in terms of NCAA qualifying, provided that we compete well. The Muskegon Jayhawk Invite will help us determine our GLIAC lineup and give non-championship racers another meet with some great competition."

"The GLIAC Championships, NCAA Midwest Regional and NCAA Championships are always our primary focus and the schedule was made with those meets in mind," added Lofdahl. "We'll prepare for the rugged Michigan Tech course by competing on challenging layouts like the Wayne Dannehl course at Parkside, and prepare for the speedy regional and national courses by racing at Goodells and Lewis."
