GLIAC -- Wayne State University Senior
Julio Osuna (Tijuana, Mexico / Instituto Mexico [Indianapolis]) and sophomore
Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Loy Norrix) were named GLIAC Male and Female Diver of the Week, respectively, on Monday as announced by the league. Both were honored for the first time in their careers after a successful dual against nationally-ranked Davenport on Friday night.
Starting with Osuna, not only did he come out on top for both boards against No. 21 Davenport, but broke the Matthaei Natatorium record at both heights. The first-year Warrior finished with a score of 349.35 at one meter (old record was 339.50) and 374.18 at three meters (old mark was 359.50). Both outputs were good enough for NCAA cuts at six dives, something Osuna had already accomplished at Clarion earlier in the month.
As for Wadsworth-Curcuru, she was victorious on both the one-meter and three-meter boards against the 13th-ranked Panthers. The second-year diver did so with scores of 243.38 and 234.75, respectively.
After their Alumni Meet on Friday, Nov. 1, Osuna, Wadsworth-Curcuru and their teammates will host nationally-ranked Findlay (men tied-for-10th, women are 17th) on Friday, Nov. 8. Start time against the Oilers inside the Matthaei is scheduled for 1 p.m.
