Swim & Dive Teams Head to Ypsilanti for Eastern Michigan Classic

Wayne State will be joined by Aquinas, the host Eagles (women only) and Toledo (women only).

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams are ready for the next chapter of their 2026-27 campaigns.  The Warriors will be at the Eastern (Michigan) Classic on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 16-17 at Jones Natatorium in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Last Time Out
The Wayne State men and women both stood atop the standings following the season-opening Davenport Invitational at Kentwood Aquatic Center in Kentwood, Mich. last Friday-Saturday.  The men ranked first in the five-team field with 1,066.5 points while the women did the same with 1,029.5 points accumulated.  The men won 17 of the 19 events they competed in while the women were victorious in nine of the 19.

Coach Peters had this to say about his teams' efforts:  "So here is how I look at first meets, if you perform the best all year at them, then we have a long way to get nowhere.  I am okay with just being okay at them.  I want to grow, progress and swim fast throughout the year and fastest at the end of the year.  I saw some good, some not good, and all that can be improved, and that's what's good about them... to find what to improve.  Meet one done, onto the next one."

Meet the Competition
Both Wayne State and the Aquinas College Saints of the NAIA ranks will have a men and women's squad participating.  On the women's side only will be a pair of Division I foes in the host Eastern Michigan University Eagles and the University of Toledo Rockets, both of the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

Aquinas: Kristy Hepp - sixth season (first head coach in programs' history)
Eastern Michigan: Derek Perkins - eighth season
Toledo: Jacy Dyer - third season
Wayne State: Sean Peters - 30th season
