Softball Concludes Dome Invitational With 2-0 Setback

Josephson notches three of WSU's six hits.

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Wayne State University softball team (2-3 overall) concluded its opening weekend with a 2-0 setback on Saturday to William Jewell College (5-6 overall) at the Lewis Dome Invitational on Saturday.

GAME RECAP
WSU freshman pitcher Sydney Long (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Cardinal hurler Avery Reynolds each put up zeros for the first five innings.

WJC scored once in the sixth on a leadoff double by Sabrina Olmo, a ground out and an infield single by Tori Woodard.

William Jewell extended its lead in the seventh with a leadoff single by Addie Bell followed by a ground-rule double off the bat of Alexa Almejo and a one-out sacrifice fly by Abby Vandiver.

WSU had the leadoff batter reach base in three of the first six innings, but only in the first frame did that runner reach third.

IN THE CIRCLE
Long (1-1) allowed two earned runs on seven hits in seven innings with four strikeouts to one walk.

Reynolds (3-3) limited the Warriors to six hits, while recording two strikeouts with zero walks.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Junior designated player Rylie Josephson (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) had three of WSU's six hits.

LEADING THE CARDINALS
Ella Hoffman had two hits.

Wayne State will have a 12-day break before playing a twinbill at Findlay on March 7th to start its spring break trip.
