Softball Swept At Findlay

Forman smacks first career home run.

FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Wayne State University softball team (2-5 overall) resumed its season on Thursday by playing an in-region doubleheader at the University of Findlay (12-8 overall).  The host Oilers won both games, 8-0 in five innings and 6-4.

GAME 1 RECAP
Warrior senior Alexis Bonk (New Hudson, Mich. / South Lyon) led off the top of the second with a double to left center and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by classmate Abby Favela (Riverside, Ill. / Riverside-Brookfield).  However, the next two batters were retired to keep the game scoreless.

In the bottom of the third, UF had a leadoff double by Avery Shepherd, who scored on a two-out RBI single by Kaitlynn Briggs just after 2-2 pitch was called out of the zone.

WSU had two runners in the fourth on a single by freshman Logan Forman (Brantford, Ont.) and a five-pitch walk to Bonk, and two more in the fifth on a two-out double by sophomore Maddie Hool (Allen Park, Mich.) and a five-pitch walk to junior Rylie Josephson (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central).  Neither frame could Wayne State get a two-out base hit.

In the bottom of the fifth, the first three Oilers reached on two hits and a walk before a sacrifice fly by Joslynne Frazier.  Two UF base runners scored on a Warrior throwing error to make it 4-0.  Alissa Davis had an RBI single and Lainey Bingham followed with an RBI double.  The final two Findlay runs scored on a pair of throwing errors by Wayne State.

The Oilers grabbed a 3-2 advantage in the second on a double by Davis, a hit by pitch of Hannah Baker and a two-run single by Kora Navarro.

WSU evened the score in the top of the third as Josephson had a one-out single and scored on Hodder's double down the left field line.

UF snapped the 3-3 deadlock in the bottom of the sixth by scoring three times on three hits, including a two-run double by Baker with the final run scoring on a Wayne State throwing error.
