Baseball Drops 6-3 Decision to Minnesota Crookston

The Warriors will play at Florida Southern on Wednesday.

DAVENPORT, Fla. -- Facing Minnesota Crookston (7-8 overall) in a single game on Tuesday, the Wayne State University baseball team (9-6 overall) was unable to come back from a 4-0 deficit.  The Golden Eagles led by that tally entering the bottom of the third and the closest the Warriors could get was two (5-3) before the final score of 6-3.  WSU will be at Florida Southern on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. first pitch.

Taking it back to that home half of the third, Wayne State got on the board when Owen Tuccinardi (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline) scored Jacoby Dale (Roseville, Mich. (Spring Arbor/Henry Ford CC)) with a sacrifice fly to left field.

Minnesota Crookston scored its fifth run in the fifth before the Warriors again responded in the bottom of that frame.  Logan Tobel (Brighton, Mich. / Hartland) doubled in Dale before Tuccinardi touched home plate thanks to a balk.  The Golden Eagles then added their sixth run in the top of the eighth.

On the mound, Ashton Potts (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson (Kellogg CC)) suffered his first loss of the season (1-1) with 3.1 innings pitched, four runs given up, two earned, on three hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

Out of the bullpen, David Thurman (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Edison), Gabe Nazelli (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Detroit Country Day), Will DeMasse (Macomb, Mich. / Dakota) and TJ McAllister (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / South Lake) combined to handle the final five and two-thirds innings with just two earned runs surrendered between them.
