Softball Readies For Final Four Games Of Spring Break Trip

WSU to play twice on both Friday and Saturday.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball team (7-8 overall) will play the final four games of its spring break trip this Friday and Saturday.

The Schedule
WSU vs. Indiana, Pa. (Diamond A) - Friday, March 15 at 1:45 p.m. ET
WSU vs. Saint Michael's College - Friday, March 15 at 4 p.m. ET
WSU vs. Saint Anselm College - Saturday, March 16 at 10 a.m. ET
WSU vs. Northern State - Saturday, March 16 at 12:30 p.m. ET

Warrior Preview
WSU has won three of its last four contests, and five of its last seven heading into the weekend. Junior designated player Rylie Josephson (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) continues to lead the squad with a .462 batting average (18-for-39) along with seven walks to five strikeouts for a .543 on-base percentage. Freshman left fielder Mia Hool (Allen Park, Mich.) and senior shortstop Shelby Miller (Georgetown, Ont.) are batting .350 and .325, respectively. In the circle, freshman Sydney Long (Grand Blanc, Mich.) is 4-3 with a 2.83 ERA. She has not allowed more than two earned runs in her last five appearances.

Indiana (Pa.) Preview
The Crimson Hawks were 11-5 entering play today. Madison Pikula is hitting a team-best .388 (19-for-49) with two doubles and two triples. Both Maddie Griffin and Jaycee Haidze have driven in 12 runs. Kendall Young has compiled a 4-2 record with a 2.26 ERA in 34 innings with 21 strikeouts. Shawna Bellaud is in her sixth season leading IUP.

Saint Michael's College Preview
The Purple Knights have lost three straight heading into today's action to fall to 4-6 overall. Angelica Johns leads SMC with a .486 average (18-for-37), and three extra-base hits. Jenna Devens is hitting .438 (14-for-32) with a team-best nine RBI. Four pitchers have each hurled at least 15 innings. Paris Richards is 1-1 with a 0.88 ERA in 16 innings with four strikeouts. Head coach Nick Goodreau is in his sixth season leading the Purple Knights.

Saint Anselm Preview
The Hawks enter Friday's action with a 6-11 overall record. Rose Reitmeyer has a team-leading .327 batting average (16-for-49) with seven extra-base hits. Stephanie Tardugno has 10 RBI to pace SAC. Haile Hicks has compiled a 6-2 mark with a 1.92 ERA in 58.1 innings with 39 strikeouts. Jill Gagnon is in her 11th season leading the Hawks.

Northern State Preview
The Wolves are 11-4 and still have four games to play before facing WSU on Saturday afternoon. Lexi Chase is hitting a team-best .486 (17-for-35) with three triples and 12 RBI. Elly Smith and Claire Zbylut each have five doubles, with Zbylut contributing a team-high eight steals. Three pitchers have each tossed at least 20 innings this season. Abby Rux is 3-1 with a 2.07 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 27 innings. Head coach Ashley Schilling is in her third season leading NSU.

UP NEXT
Wayne State returns to Michigan following the NSU contest and then will travel to Tiffin on Wednesday, March 20th for a non-conference in-region doubleheader.
