Baseball Blows Out Parkside Twice, 16-3 and 17-8

The Warriors scored their 33 runs on just as many hits.

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (22-12 overall, 11-6 GLIAC) scored 33 runs in two games to sweep Parkside (15-17 overall, 4-10 GLIAC) 16-3 and 17-8 on Saturday at Carthage College's Augie Schmidt Field.  The Warriors and Rangers will conclude their weekend four-game set on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. eastern time.

Those 33 runs are the most for Wayne State in back-to-back games since putting up 39 (26 and 13) at Indianapolis on March 5-6, 2022.  When it comes to league play, the Warriors haven't scored that much in two-straight outings since 38 (23 and 15) at Purdue Northwest on May 1-2, 2021.

Saturday, WSU hit .407 (33-for-81) with 15 extra-base hits including 10 doubles, one triple and four home runs.  All nine Warriors that registered a hit had at least a trio of them including three players with three base knocks each and six with four apiece.  Wayne State's offense was highlighted by Logan Van Sicklen (Waterford Twp., Mich. / Waterford Kettering) who went 4-for-9 with four runs, one triple, two bombs, 10 driven in and a walk.

GAME ONE RECAP
Wayne State brought in five runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, four in the fifth and sixth in the sixth.  Six Warriors garnered multiple hits while two notched three of them in Tony Hatzigeorgiou (Oxford, Mich.) and Drew Hill (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North).

On the mound, Griffin Kilander (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) improved to 6-2 while going the distance for the fourth time this season and fifth time in his career.  Kilander gave up three earned runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

GAME TWO RECAP
The Wayne State offense stayed scorching hot in the nightcap with a run in the first, six in the second, two in the third, five in the seventh and three in the eighth.  Again, six players tallied two or more hits while Mason McGuire (Lyon Twp., Mich. / Brighton (Mott CC)) and Kyle Ray (Woodhaven, Mich.) had three each.

Seth Marano (Canton, Mich. (Lansing CC)) elevated his record to 5-1 with 6.1 frames of work.  Marano surrendered five earned on six hits with two free passes and four punchouts.  Out of the bullpen, Evan Langlois (Brownstown, Mich. / Woodhaven) and Ryan Szlachcic (Jenison, Mich. / Hudsonville (Kalamazoo Valley CC)) accounted for five outs and three outs, respectively.
