Baseball Defeats Parkside 6-4 for Series Win

Three Warrior pitchers combined to surrender just one earned run.

GRAYSLAKE, Ill. -- After an offensive explosion on Saturday (33 runs in two games), the Wayne State University baseball team (23-12 overall, 12-6 GLIAC) mustered just enough offense against Parkside (15-18 overall, 4-11 GLIAC) on Sunday for the 6-4 victory and series win.  The Warriors will play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday at Northwood beginning at 3 p.m.

Neither team scored until Wayne State did so first in the fourth inning.  Kyle Ray singled to left field bringing in Mason McGuire and Drew Hill brought in Ray with a base knock to center.

Parkside got on the board with a run in the home half of that inning before the Warriors made it a two-run margin again in the fifth, 3-1.  CJ Maury grounded into a 4-3 double play that forced in Nate Crossman.

However, the Rangers would go on to score a pair of runs in the sixth to make it a 3-3 affair.  Then in the seventh, Logan Van Sicklen touched home plate when Jacoby Dale reached on a throwing error by the first baseman before Crossman came in on Maury's sacrifice fly to right.

The home team pulled within one again in the bottom of the seventh, but the visitors tacked on an insurance run in the eighth when Crossman drew a bases-loaded walk and Tony Hatzigeorgiou scored on a passed ball.

Ashton Potts received a no decision but handled his business after 5.2 innings pitched.  Potts gave up three runs, none of which were earned, on six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.

First out of the bullpen, TJ McAllister picked up the first victory of his career with four outs recorded and one earned run surrendered on just one hit.  Then, Macio Miller was awarded his first career save thanks to a pair of shutout frames, only one hit, no free passes and five punchouts.
