Softball Held To Two Runs In Pair Of Losses At Purdue Northwest

WSU lost 10-2 and 3-0 at the Pride.

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Wayne State University softball team (14-23 overall, 6-10 GLIAC) was held to two hits in each contest dropping a doubleheader at Purdue Northwest (24-18 overall, 9-7 GLIAC) Sunday afternoon.  PNW won the opener 10-2 in five innings, then claimed a 3-0 victory in the nightcap.

Game 1 Recap
The Pride's Jessica DeBoer smacked a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the first giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second.  Kiley Lewandowski (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Lincoln) had a leadoff double and Logan Forman (Brantford, Ont.) reached on a throwing error on her sacrifice bunt, which allowed Lewandowski to score.  With two outs, Forman scored on an infield hit and throwing error.

Purdue Northwest tied the game at 2-2 in the second on a single and a two-out RBI double by Myah Stuckey.

PNW snapped the deadlock in the third with a three-run home run by Selena Michko.  Then added two more runs on a two-out, two-run single by Aubrey Shroyer.

The Pride tallied a pair of runs in the fourth on another round tripper by Michko and a sacrifice fly by Amanda DeBoer.

The game ended on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth by Jessica DeBoer.

IN THE CIRCLE
Syndey Long (Grand Blanc, Mich.) allowed five earned runs on seven hits in two-plus innings.  She struck out two and did not walk a batter.  Sasha Buckberger (Oakville, Ont.) recorded eight outs and allowed five earned runs on eight hits.  She struck out two and walked one.

Gabby Paliska went the distance for PNW limiting WSU to one earned run (two runs total) on three hits in five innings.  She struck out two and walked two.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Lewandowski had two hits and a run scored, while Ruczynski had one hit.

LEADING THE PRIDE
Michko went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.  Five other PNW batters had a multiple-hit affair as Purdue Northwest notched 15 hits, including seven for extra bases (4 doubles, 3 home runs).

Game 2 Recap
Each had two hits, but Michko's third home run of the day accounted for all three PNW runs in the bottom of the third following a walk, a double and two fielder's choice outs.

WSU had a base runner in five of the first six innings (two hits and three walks), but never got a runner past second base.

IN THE CIRCLE
Alexis Bonk (New Hudson, Mich. / South Lyon) allowed three earned runs on two hits in six innings.  She struck out three and walked four.

Maddison Roop went the distance for PNW and blanked the Warriors on two hits.  She struck out six and walked three.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Both Lewandowski and Becky Hodder (Orangeville, Mich.) reached base twice via a single and a walk.

LEADING THE PRIDE
Michko drove in all three runs with a home run.  Shroyer had a double and a walk.

UP NEXT
Wayne State will try to snap its four-game losing streak on Wednesday when Ohio Dominican visits Gary L. Bryce Field for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
