DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball team (24-15 overall, 13-8 GLIAC) dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Grand Valley State (20-18 overall, 12-7 GLIAC) on Saturday at Harwell Field, 5-1 and 14-3. The Warriors and Lakers will wrap up their four-game set on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
GAME ONE RECAP
Grand Valley State's Sam Leck (3-1) threw a no-hitter with one earned run allowed, three walks and five strikeouts.
Griffin Kilander (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) fell to 6-3 with seven innings pitched, five earned runs given up on 13 hits, no free passes and five punchouts.
The Warriors scored their lone run in the first inning when
CJ Maury (Brampton, Ont. / Mayfield SS) was hit by a pitch, stole second, moved up to third on a flyout and scored on
Kyle Ray's (Woodhaven, Mich.) groundout to the third baseman.
GAME TWO RECAP
Grand Valley State scored one run in the first, another in the second, five in the third, three in the fourth, one in the sixth and three more in the eighth.
Wayne State's three eighth-inning runs came in on a
Mason McGuire (Lyon Twp., Mich. / Brighton (Mott CC)) sacrifice fly to center before back-to-back bases-loaded walks by
Drew Hill (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) and
Owen Tuccinardi (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline). The Warriors that came in to score on those plays were
Brady Blakita (Canton, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central),
Coy Plummer (New Hudson, Mich. / South Lyon) and Maury.
WSU used a combination of five pitchers including
