GVSU Wins Weekend Series Over WSU Baseball, Three Games to One

Wayne State will be at Davenport next weekend for a four-game set.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball team (24-16 overall, 13-9 GLIAC) dropped its third game in a row against Grand Valley State (21-18 overall, 13-7 GLIAC) on Sunday at Harwell Field, 8-2.  Next up, the Warriors will be on the west side next weekend for a four-game series at Davenport.

Grand Valley State notched three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, another in the seventh, two in the eighth and one more in the ninth.  For Wayne State, its two scores came in the sixth and eighth frames.

In the sixth, Reagan Paulina's (Highland, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central (Oakland)) base knock to left center forced in CJ Maury (Brampton, Ont. / Mayfield SS).

Two innings later, the bases were loaded with one out for Tony Hatzigeorgiou (Oxford, Mich.).  Hatzigeorgiou popped it up to shallow right-center field, the infield fly rule was put into effect and the ball dropped to the ground.  Owen Tuccinardi (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline) was doubled up at second base, but not before Mason McGuire (Lyon Twp., Mich. / Brighton (Mott CC)) scored from third as an RBI for Hatzigeorgiou.

Seth Marano (Canton, Mich. / Canton (Lansing CC)) suffered the loss and fell to 5-2 with five and two-thirds innings pitched.  Marano surrendered four runs, three earned, on 10 hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

First out of the bullpen, Gavin Nash (Howell, Mich. / Hartland) accounted for five outs with three earned runs allowed on four hits and one free pass.  Then, Keegan Pulford-Thorpe (Aurora, Ont. / Newmarket (Central Florida / Georgia Highlands College)) gave up one unearned run on one hit with two walks and a punchout.  Lastly, Cam Rosen (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter) recorded the 27th out thanks to a swinging strikeout.
