Saginaw Valley State Walks Off Wayne State Baseball 15-14

The Cardinals' Jeff Reseigh hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- Three and a half hours of baseball later, Saginaw Valley State's (22-9 overall, 11-3 GLIAC) Jeff Reseigh hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Cardinals defeated Wayne State (20-11 overall, 9-5 GLIAC) by a score of 15-14.  Next up for the Warriors is a four-game set at Parkside on Friday through Sunday.

Wayne State was ahead by six runs, 8-2, halfway through the game before Saginaw Valley State put up a 10 spot in the bottom of the fifth to lead by four, 12-8.  The Warriors punched right back with five runs of their own in the top half of the sixth to take back the advantage, 13-12.  The Cardinals then deadlocked the score for a fourth time at 13-13.

Both teams tallied a run in the eighth for the fifth tie, WSU stranded a pair of baserunners in the top of the ninth and then Reseigh went deep to center with one out recorded in the home half.

Eight of Wayne State's nine starting batters both recorded a hit and scored a run while six of them registered multiple base knocks.  Five of those eight scored multiple runs and four drove in two or more.

Individually, the Warriors' offense was highlighted by Reagan Paulina (Highland, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central (Oakland)).  Paulina went 4-for-6 with three runs, four driven in and a pair of doubles.

On the mound, six pitchers threw a pitch for WSU including Drew Hill (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North), Macio Miller (Kimball, Mich. / Marysville (Jackson CC)), Coy Plummer (New Hudson, Mich. / South Lyon), TJ McAllister (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / South Lake), Evan Langlois (Brownstown, Mich. / Woodhaven) and Gabe Nazelli (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Detroit Country Day).

Hill made his first career start and Nazelli fell to 0-1 on the season.
