2024 WSU Football - Quarterbacks Preview

Two redshirt freshmen will battle four newcomers for playing time.

DETROIT -- Over the next four weeks, we will continue previewing each position on the 2024 Wayne State University football team with each position coach highlighting their respective units.  This segment is the quarterbacks preview with coach Russell DeMasi.

One of the biggest battles in camp will be to see which quarterbacks will make the bus trip to Tiffin on September 5th for the season opener.

Redshirt freshman Justin Cox appeared in three games a season ago and passed for 315 yards and two touchdowns, while also recording a rushing touchdown at Saginaw Valley State.

The only other returning signal caller is classmate Cane Mack, who dressed just once in 2023, but did not see any game action.  He was a three-sport athlete at Portage Northern High School.

The lone true freshman in the group is Jaeden Meeks from Benton Harbor.  He was a two-year starter for the Tigers and tallied nearly 5,000 yards of total offense (3,650 passing plus 1,100 rushing) during his prep career.  Meeks also competed in basketball, track and baseball for BHHS.

The three transfers at signal caller all have varied collegiate experience.

Robert Brazziel spent the last three years at the College of DuPage and will be a redshirt junior this fall.  After redshirting in 2021, he helped lead the Chaparrals to back-to-back NJCAA national championships.  Last year, the 6-2, 200-pound native of Chicago, passed for 465 yards and seven touchdowns, while rushing for 128 yards and six scores.

Cameron Davis is a 6-4, 215-pound native of Tennessee, who will be a junior this fall.  He played at Southwest Mississippi Community College in 2022, where he completed 71-of-120 passes for 693 yards and five touchdowns.  Last season for Division 2 Mississippi College, Davis passed for 844 yards and four scores.

The lone sophomore signal caller on the roster will be Champion Edwards from Utah.  He spent last season at El Camino (Calif.) Junior College, where he passed for 388 yards and three touchdowns.  The 6-2, 180-pound quarterback completed 38-of-60 passes.  His younger brother, Maximos, is also joining the Warriors this fall.
