Volleyball Jumps Back Into Win Column at Saginaw Valley State

The Warriors ran their winning streak against the Cardinals to nine.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (4-6 overall, 2-1 GLIAC) took care of business on Friday night, defeating Saginaw Valley State (3-8 overall, 1-2 GLIAC) in four sets inside Hamilton Gymnasium.  The Warriors have beaten the Cardinals for nine matches in a row.

"We found a way to win tonight when we didn't play our best," said head coach Tim Koth.  "Road wins in the GLIAC are tough, and SVSU played super hard. Credit to them for that, and credit to us for finding a way tonight."

Wayne State 3, Saginaw Valley State 1
HOW IT HAPPENED (-18, -17, 23-25, -19)
- The Warriors hit .197 as a team, their lowest hitting percentage in a win since Oct. Oct. 22, 2022 against Purdue Northwest (.189).
- For that .197 output, Wayne State tallied 46 kills to 23 errors on 117 total attacks.
- The Cardinals countered with a clip of .111, including 45 kills and 30 mishaps on 136 swings.
- WSU's best offensive set came in the fourth at .261 (9-3-23) while SVSU's best was the fourth as well at .219 (14-7-32).
- In the team head-to-head, the only category decided by more than three was digs, 51-43 in favor of the away team.
- Molly Miller notched the most kills and attacks of any Warrior with 16 and 41, respectively.
- Thanks to 10 digs, Miller tallied her fourth double-double of the season and 11th in the Green & Gold.
- Ella Uganski hit the ball well with eight kills and only one error on 14 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage.
- Kayla Giroux struggled to put up her normal numbers with a .273 clip, 10 kills, four errors and 22 swings.
- Joining Miller in the double-double department was Kayla Dulgar with 37 assists and 13 digs.
- That effort gives the sophomore a double-double in back-to-back matches, three in her last four performances and four this fall.
- Maya Wegand came within two digs of her personal best of 11.
