SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (5-6 overall, 3-1 GLIAC) made it three wins in four matches to start GLIAC play on Saturday at Lake Superior State (5-7 overall, 2-2 GLIAC). The Warriors won in straight sets and hit .280 in the process, their third-best percentage of the young season and highest so far on the road.
"We played a clean match today against a very competitive team from Lake State," said head coach
Tim Koth. "We had a breakout performance from
Katie Smith...one we knew was coming, but it was great to finally see. Very positive road weekend for the Warriors."

HOW IT HAPPENED (-19, -17, -18)
- As mentioned above, Wayne State hit .280 to Lake Superior State's .079.
- The Warriors racked up 41 kills to just 13 errors on 100 total attacks.
- The Lakers countered with 32 kills and 23 errors on 114 swings.
- WSU's best set efficiency wise came in the third at .345 (14-4-29).
- LSSU's most potent period was the third as well at .103 (12-8-39).
- With 11 kills,
Kayla Giroux made it three straight and all but three for the season with 10 or more.
- As mentioned above by coach Koth,
Katie Smith had a great afternoon.
- The sophomore notched a red-hot hitting percentage of .615, a personal best.
- Smith sent home eight kills with no mishaps and 13 attempts.

Ella Uganski wrapped up a solid week in which she hit .444 (14-2-27).

Kendyl Andrews paced all players in digs with 23, a new season high and four off her career best.
