Women's Track & Field Competes At Findlay Alumni Classic

Hopkins sets school record in the 1,000m run.

FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad began the 2025 portion of its schedule by competing in the Findlay Alumni Classic on Friday, January 17th. Joining the host Oilers and the Warriors were Tiffin and Cedarville.

Findlay won the meet with 68 points, while WSU was second with 46 points. Tiffin placed third (38 points) and Cedarville was fourth (14). UF Oiler Alumni was fifth with 10 points.

"Our main goal was to come off the holiday break as healthy and fit as possible, and hopefully pick up where we left off in December. After seeing how the team performed at Findlay, I feel like we did that. The team is in a strong position starting out the new year, and we are only going to get sharper and fitter and more confident.

"The 60-meter hurdles was a big highlight with Megan Zahnow, Kenzie Wellner, and Alex Harmer sweeping the top-three places. Kenzie set a PR in the prelim and another one in the final. Our jumpers had a solid day, led by Nicole Warren in long jump, Renae Kutcha in triple jump, and Olivia Findlay in high jump. Weight throw went very well for both Makayla Stewart and Ania Toboy, who each had a PR.

"Hanne Bastiaansen ran very well in the 300, as did Rachel Overgaard and Tianna Bennett. Elyse Miller and Lauren Wooten competed really in both the 60 and 200-meter dashes. On the distance side, Emily Gordon crushed the mile, getting a PR and a win, with Robin Bresolin running a nice PR as well. Anna Gdowski competed really hard in the 600, as did Aubrey Migoski and Mattie Drennan in the 3K. Maybe the biggest highlight of the night was Taylor Hopkins winning the 1000-meter run and setting a school record – very impressive performance from her!"
