HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (14-3 overall) is off to a 2-0 start at the annual Midwest Region Crossover after defeating Rockhurst (13-6 overall) in straight sets and Hillsdale (6-9 overall) in four on Friday.

Tim Koth. "This morning, we played a very clean (low error) match against an outstanding Rockhurst club, and this afternoon we competed really well to win against perennial G-MAC power Hillsdale.  Looking forward to our match up tomorrow."
Match One - Wayne State 3, Rockhurst 0
HOW IT HAPPENED (-20, -22, -18)
- Wayne State hit a season high .354 on 99 total attacks with 45 kills and only 10 errors.
- Rockhurst countered with a hitting percentage of .126 on 111 attempts with 39 kills and 25 mishaps.
- The Warriors came out guns blazing with a .500 clip in the first set:Â 18 kills, two miscues and 32 swings.
- The Hawks' most efficient period was also the first at .241, 11 kills and four errors on 29 total attacks.
- WSU also blocked a season-high 14 attempts, the program's most in just over three years, which included 28 assisted stops.
- Individually,
Paige Giehtbrock was an absolute force thanks to a season-best .395 hitting percentage.
- Giehtbrock sent home 17 kills to just two errors on 38 swings.
- Down the line, four more Warriors showed efficiency as well.
- Those four included
Lauren Essenpreis (eight kills, .375),
Kayla Giroux (eight kills, .263),
Leigha Baldwin (five kills, .375) and
Katerina Stout (five kills, .455).

Kayla Dulgar churned out 38 assists and two service aces while Giehtbrock and
Kendyl Andrews each added an ace.
- Defensively, Andrews was on top of the dig department with nine.
- Above the net, six Warriors contributed to the team's 28 block assists.
- Those six were Giroux (eight), Baldwin (seven), Stout (six), Dulgar (four), Giehtbrock (two) and Essenpreis (one).

HOW IT HAPPENED (-11, 19-25, -18, -22)
- Wayne State hit .281 for the match with 62 kills, 24 errors and 135 swings.
- HIllsdale's final clip was .184 with 41 kills and 16 mishaps on 136 attempts.
- Just like the day's first match, the Warriors were at their best in the first at .517 (17, 2, 29).
- The Chargers finished off the match at .306 in the fourth period (14, 3, 36).

Leigha Baldwin had a career night with a personal best 18 kills and only two errors on 25 total attacks for a .640 hitting percentage.
- Other Warriors with double-figure kills were
Paige Giehtbrock (14, 9, 34, .147) and
Kayla Giroux (10, 2, 22, .364).

Kayla Dulgar tied her career high in kills with four and was without an error on seven attempts for a .571 clip.
- Dulgar also racked up 50 assists, her fourth outing with at least that many this season.
- Behind the service line,
Abby Macalaguim tied her season best in aces with four.
- Giehtbrock,
Lauren Essenpreis and
Kendyl Andrews each notched two aces as well.
- Defensively, starting with digs, Andrews tallied 21 of them and Macalaguim was other Warrior in double-digits with 10.
- Giehtbrock, Essenpreis and Dulgar were right on Macalaguim's heels with nine, nine and eight, respectively.
- Above the net, Essenpreis and
Katerina Stout each assisted on three blocks while Giroux had a pair of assisted in her own right.

Wayne State will face Missouri-St. Louis (15-4 overall) on Saturday with the first serve scheduled for 3 p.m. eastern time.
