Volleyball Falls to 15th-Ranked Ferris State in First Home Loss of 2025

Wayne State lost in straight sets for just the second time in 21 matches.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (16-5 overall, 8-3 GLIAC) suffered its first home loss of the 2025 season (8-1) on Friday night inside the Matthaei Center at the hands of No. 15 Ferris State (19-4 overall, 10-1 GLIAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED (24-26, 16-25, 23-25)
- Wayne State hit .152 for the match with 46 kills and 23 errors on 151 total attacks.
- Ferris State countered with a .193 clip on 37 kills, 14 errors and 119 attempts.
- This effort marked just the Warriors' second loss (12-2) when their opponent hits less than .200.
- WSU
's best set was the first at .255 (18, 6, 47) while FSU's was also the opening period at .256 (14, 4, 39).
- Wayne State lost for the first time this season (8-1) when the other team tallied fewer than 40 total kills as Ferris State had 37.

- Kayla Giroux led all attackers in kills with 12 and Katerina Stout was right behind her with 10.
- Stout went for double-digits in that category for the fourth time this season and second instance in her last four outings.
- The freshman did so while hitting .391 with just one mishap on 23 swings.
- Kayla Dulgar hit the ball well with six kills and only one error on her 15 total attacks (.333).
- Dulgar also dished out 33 assists, but was held without a service ace for just the second time in her last five efforts.
- Behind the service line, Kendyl Andrews notched the Green and Gold's lone ace.

- Defensively, thanks to a team-high 13 digs, Dulgar earned seventh double-double of 2025 and 27th of her career.
- Lauren Essenpreis (12), Abby Macalaguim (12) and Paige Giehtbrock were next up in the dig column.
- Above the net, Giroux was the ringleader with three blocks, one of which was a solo stop.
