Women's Indoor Track & Field Announces 2025-26 Schedule

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad, under the direction of ninth-year head coach Grand Lofdahl, has announced its schedule for the upcoming season.

"We have our biggest roster ever this year, with a large freshman class and a lot of experienced veterans as well," remarked Lofdahl.  "The coaching staff put together a schedule that will hopefully balance the two factors of maximizing competitive opportunities for everyone, and also giving our top athletes some elite competition with chances to hit NCAA qualifying marks at some key meets.

"This year blends a mix of familiar meets like the SVSU (Saginaw Valley State University) Holiday Open and the Findlay Alumni Classic with (to most of the team) new venues such as NMU's (Northern Michigan University) Superior Dome and U of M's (University of Michigan) new indoor track.  Our biggest meets will include the Midwest Classic at the Indiana State Fairgrounds track, site of last year's NCAA Championships, and GVSU's (Grand Valley State University) Big Meet which is always highly competitive.

"One unique aspect of this season's schedule is that we will compete on all three varieties of indoor tracks:  200m flat, 300m, and 200m banked.  With the GLIAC meet being on a 300 and the NCAA meet on a banked track, we felt this was important to prepare our team.  We have 55 hard-working Warriors and are excited to see what they will accomplish this season!"

The Warriors commence this year's schedule on Friday, Dec. 5 at the SVSU Holiday Open in the lone competition before exams.

WSU begins 2026 with the Findlay Alumni Classic on Friday, Jan. 16.

The following week Wayne State returns to University Center, Mich. for the SVSU Doug Hansen Open.

The Warriors close out January by competing at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion.  Those not participating in Indiana will take part in the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invite.

WSU makes the long trek to Marquette, Mich. for the W-C-W (Warriors-Cardinals-Wildcats) Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Superior Dome.

Valentine's Day weekend Wayne State will head to the west side of Michigan for the GVSU Big Meet Friday and Big Meet Saturday (Feb. 13-14).

The squad will be split on Friday, Feb. 20 with some members heading to Michigan's Silverston Invitational, while others will be heading to the SVSU Tune-Up.

SVSU will be hosting the GLIAC Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 28-March 1.

The NCAA Indoor Championships will take place on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14 in Virginia Beach, Va.
