DETROIT -- Another week gone, another GLIAC weekly distinction for
Kayla Giroux (Flat Rock, Mich.). Giroux was recognized by the league for the ninth time in her career (seven offensive, two defensive) and fifth instance just this season alone (four offensive, one defensive). Monday, the senior was honored for her defense for the first time since her freshman campaign in 2022.
This past week, while Wayne State was recording wins No. 20 and 21 and securing a share of the GLIAC Regular Season Championship, the program's first in 44 years, Giroux was a force above the net defensively. The senior racked up 13 blocks (1.86 per set), three of which were of the solo variety. She also hit .297 on the offensive end with 29 kills and 10 errors on 64 total attacks.
Giroux and her Green and Gold teammates will host Michigan Tech on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. inside The Matthaei Center as part of the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals. The Warriors are the second seed and will welcome in the seventh-seeded Huskies.
