DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (11-11 overall, 4-7 GLIAC) will play its final home match of the regular season on Friday night when it hosts Parkside (13-8 overall, 5-5 GLIAC) for a 7 p.m. first serve inside the Matthaei.
Coach's Corner
"We are looking forward to Friday evening to celebrate our families and seniors, and to a very competitive match with Parkside," said head coach
Tim Koth. "Our matchups are always exciting, and this one should be as well."
GLIAC Setter of the Week
Kayla Dulgar was named GLIAC Setter of the Week for the seventh time in her career and first instance this season on Monday.  Dulgar was one of seven GLIAC representatives for the Midwest Region Crossover All-Tournament Team last weekend.  While leading the Warriors to their first 3-0 Midwest Region Crossover in 15 years on Friday-Saturday, the senior racked up 148 assists, or 13.5 per set, to go with 37 digs, three service aces, three kills, and one block. The Ohio native secured her eighth double-double of the season on Friday against Southwest Baptist with 61 assists (two off career high) and 20 digs (six off career high).  That was her 39th career double-double, but first with 60+ assists and 20+ digs.
Greatness Personified
While she was leading WSU to an unblemished Crossover, Dulgar also jumped WSU's Cydney Biessel (2009-12) for sole possession of fourth place in the program's record book for most career assists with 4,095. Then on Tuesday against Davenport, she overtook Amy Horgan (1997-00) for third place and enters her Senior Night with 4,136 career assists. Dulgar's 10.14 helpers per set are still good for fourth in school history.
All-Tournament Team
Dulgar was joined on the Midwest Region Crossover All-Tournament Team by fellow senior
Katie Smith. In those three matches, Smith totaled 59 kills (5.4 per set) and just 16 errors on 122 total attacks for a .352 hitting percentage. She also registered seven service aces, eight digs and six total blocks.

Scouting Parkside
Parkside is coached by ninth-year leader Leigh Barea, who owns an overall record of 105-136 in that span for a .436 winning percentage. This season, her offense has leaned on a quartet of performers the most. Those four players are sophomore attacker Avary Polavin (281 kills), senior attacker Sierra Kilbourn (252 kills), redshirt sophomore setter Lacy Russ (551 assists), and freshman outside hitter Emily Zaper (33 aces). Defensively, senior libero Natalie Harris (476 digs) and sophomore middle blocker Maia Olson (68 total blocks) have been the most impressive. Harris, the two-time defending GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year and 2025 AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, ranks fourth in the country in digs per set (5.73) and fifth in total digs.
GLIAC Tournament
Entering this matchup, Wayne State is sitting in eighth place for the 11-team GLIAC standings. The top eight will qualify for the GLIAC Tournament with the top four seeds hosting the bottom four. Parkside is part of the two-way tie-for-sixth with Michigan Tech, a team that the Warriors will see for a second time next week. WSU also still has a second meeting with Northern Michigan (tied-for-third) in Marquette, a trip to Purdue Northwest (tied-for-ninth) and a match at Parkside left on the regular-season schedule.
Up Next
Wayne State will be on the road for the final two weeks of the regular season. That road swing starts with a trip to Michigan Tech on Friday at 6 p.m. and Northern Michigan on Saturday for Halloween at 4 p.m.
