Ferguson Garners GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

DETROIT -- Wayne State University junior guard McKenna Ferguson (Grandville, Mich. / Byron Center) was named GLIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office.  

Ferguson was instrumental in the Warriors road split last week as WSU posted a victory at #6-Ashland after falling at Malone the day prior.  The junior totaled six rebounds, 10 steals and one blocked shot in 61 minutes of action, while also contributing offensively with 33 points and three assists.  In the fourth quarter of the win over the Eagles, Ferguson notched a pair of steals along with five points.

She currently leads the nation in total steals (18), while ranking second in the GLIAC in steals per game (4.5).  At the other end of the court, Ferguson has a GLIAC-best 18.8 points per game average ranking third in both field goals made (26) and triples made (11), and fifth in free throws made (12).  She also has the top three-point percentage (.786 / 11-of-14) in the GLIAC, which is sixth nationally.

The Green and Gold host Hillsdale College for an in-region non-conference contest on Wednesday, November 19, at 6:00 PM in the WSU Fieldhouse.
