Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Lake Superior State

Wayne State won in straight sets for the ninth time this season.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (18-5 overall, 10-3 GLIAC) picked up its ninth victory by sweep of the season on Friday night thanks to a comfortable dispatching of Lake Superior State (1-19 overall, 1-12 GLIAC) in straight sets.

"Tonight was a very steady performance by the Warriors on an emotional senior night for Lake State," said head coach Tim Koth.  "We got strong contributions across the board tonight and I'm proud of the team."

HOW IT HAPPENED (-13, -16, -19)
- Wayne State registered its second highest hitting percentage of the season at .344, second only to .354 against Rockhurst.
- The Warriors finished with 46 kills and 14 errors on 93 total attacks.
- Lake Superior State countered with a clip of .095.
- That output included 23 kills and 15 mishaps on 84 attempts.
- WSU's best individual period was the second at .467 (16, 2, 30).
- LSSU's best set was also the second, but at .160 (8, 4, 25).

- Kayla Giroux was masterful again with 14 kills and only one miscue on 23 swings for a .565 efficiency.
- Also in the middle, Katerina Stout attacked at a red hot .700 with eight kills, just one error and 10 total attacks.
- Staying on the offensive side of things, Kayla Dulgar notched 37 assists.
- Paige Giehtbrock (four aces) and Abby Macalaguim (two aces) both asserted themselves behind the service line.
- Giehtbrock tied her career high in that department while Macalaguim split her season best.

- Defensively, Kendyl Andrews was the ringleader in digs with 14.
- Above the net, Wayne State had a total of just two blocks, both of which were solo.
- Nicole Dupre and Leigha Baldwin were responsible for the two solo stops.
