DETROIT -- Award season continued on Wednesday for senior middle blocker
Kayla Giroux (Flat Rock, Mich.) and junior setter
Kayla Dulgar (Warsaw, Ohio / River View) of the Wayne State University volleyball team, as they were both recognized as All-Region performers. Giroux was named First Team All-Region by both the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) while Dulgar was featured on the First Team by the AVCA.
"This is a well-deserved honor for both of them," said head coach
Tim Koth. "They both epitomize the work ethic, performance and leadership skills you would expect from someone who achieves this type of acknowledgment. Well done and I'm so proud of them."
Starting with Giroux, the fourth-year Warrior is now a five-time All-Region honoree. That includes an AVCA Honorable Mention nod in 2022 as a freshman, a Second-Team choice in 2024 (D2CCA) and three selections as a First Teamer (AVCA in 2024, both D2CCA and AVCA in 2025). Among the best the Midwest Region has to offer, the 2025 GLIAC Player of the Year ranks second in hitting percentage (.390), fourth in points per set (4.62), fifth in kills per set (3.90), fifth in total kills (421) and seventh in total blocks (117). Giroux, who may go down as the best player in program history, is all over Wayne State's career record book. She is slotted first in hitting percentage (.372), second in total kills (1,399), fifth in block assists (342), fifth in total stops (410), tied-for-eighth in kills per set (3.24) and 68 solo stuffs (68). The Wayne State veteran also looks to be a shoo-in to become the first two-time All-American (both on the court and in the classroom) in program history.
Wayne State volleyball has achieved five All-Americans in its 50-plus-year history, but never two in the same season. Dulgar will likely make such a feat happen for the first time in 2025. Regionally, the school's first-ever GLIAC Setter of the Year ranks fifth for both total assists (1,134) and assists per set (10.5). Career wise, she's already fourth for assists per set (10.15) and fifth for total assists (3,257). A six-time GLIAC Setter of the Week (three this fall), Dulgar continues to better herself year after year. The team's point guard was distinguished as Honorable Mention All-GLIAC in 2023, Second Team in 2024 and First Team in 2025.
Both the D2CCA and AVCA will announce their 2025 All-American Teams on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
Those two and their teammates will make the fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history on Thursday night. First serve in regional play for the fourth-seeded Warriors against fifth-seeded Findlay will come at 8 p.m. eastern inside top-seeded UMSL's Mark Twain Building.
