UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's basketball squad (12-11 overall, 8-7 GLIAC) rallied in the second half from a nine-point deficit (41-32) at intermission for an 81-69 road victory at Saginaw Valley State University (9-14 overall, 5-10 GLIAC) Thursday evening.  The win improves WSU's record in Thursday conference games to 7-1 this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The host Cardinals tallied the first eight points before junior center Kelvin Tamakloe (Accra, Ghana / Spring Creek Academy [Blinn College]) scored on a jumper at the 17:45 mark.  Senior guard Ray Williams, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Edison Public School Academy) followed with a jumper 70 seconds later.  Sophomore guard Rob Lee, Jr. (Flint, Mich. / Beecher) had a jumper in the paint sandwiched by two SVSU triples, which were followed a Cardinal bucket and another three-pointer for the home team giving the hosts a 19-6 advantage with 12:41 remaining in the first half.

A lay-up by junior guard Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich. / Warren De La Salle [Macomb CC]) ended the 11-2 spurt by Saginaw Valley State.  A steal by freshman guard Adam Ayrault (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) led to a Lee, Jr. fast-break lay-up and an Adley basket concluded the 6-0 run by Wayne State.  SVSU led by 12 (27-15) with just over eight minutes left before intermission.

A bucket by Lee, Jr. and a triple by junior guard Carmelo Harris (Flint, Mich. / Beecher) trimmed the WSU deficit to seven (27-20).  Six minutes later the Warriors cut the margin to six (36-30) on a jumper by junior Carlos Paul III (Southfield, Mich. / Cornerstone Lincoln-King [Missouri State - West Plains]).  However, the Cardinals scored five of the last seven points of the half to lead 41-32 at the break.

Second Half
Wayne State recorded the first six points of the second half on two foul shots by Adley, followed by buckets from Harris and Lee, Jr. in a span of 30 seconds.  After a Cardinal shot from beyond the arc, Williams, Jr. responded with his own three pointer.  SVSU had a five-point advantage (48-43) with 16:20 left after a long-range shot by Freddie McIntosh.

Harris connected from three-point range and Paul III scored from the paint to knot the game for the first time at 48-48.  Consecutive buckets by Saginaw Valley State preceded another triple from Harris.  Following an SVSU turnover, Paul III scored to give WSU its first lead of the contest at 53-52 with 12:17 left.    After a Cardinal triple by Triston Nichols, Paul III scored again for a 55-55 tie.  Lee, Jr. tied the game at 57-57 with a lay-up.

Saginaw Valley State had a four-point cushion (63-59) following a triple by Bryson Huckeby with just under nine minutes left, before the Warriors recaptured the advantage until another long-range bomb from McIntosh put SVSU ahead 66-64 with seven minutes remaining.
