Men's Tennis Flourishes in 7-0 Victory Over Findlay

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (4-0) thwarted the University of Findlay (2-4) 7-0 on Friday.  The win marks the fourth straight for the Green and Gold as they remain perfect on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
The Warriors claimed the early advantage by winning all three matches and earning the doubles point.

The top pairing of Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany / Altkönigschule Kronberg) and George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) continued to collect wins as they defeated Dallas Ramsay and Luigi Bove 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles position.

Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England / King's Priory School) and Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) quickly followed suit, prevailing 6-3 in the No. 2 slot over Elijah Hadler and Soh Kuyama.

Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) and Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) continued the theme of 6-3 matches as the duo downed Clement Andrieu and Runa Kagoshima while competing in the No. 3 spot.

SINGLES
Wasner and Klaus were the first two student-athletes to finish as the freshman prevailed 6-4, 6-3 against Dallas Ramsay while the graduate student earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Clement Andrieu.

Drenth, competing in the No. 1 position, was the next Warrior to finish play. The senior entered the tie-breaker set after splitting the first two 6-3 and 3-6. Soh Kuyama held a 2-1 advantage but three straight points for Drenth put him ahead 4-2.  Kuyama notched one more point before the Warrior tallied the final two to earn the win.

In the No. 2 singles position, George Day and Luigi Bove battled back-and-forth forcing a tie-breaker set.  The freshman came out hot as he opened with a 5-1 advantage.  Bove rallied back to pull within one (5-4) but the Warrior claimed the ensuing point to win 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Benjamin Hill and Sam Knowles closed out the win in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions respectively.  Hill triumphed 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) over Matthis Veniard, while Knowles prevailed 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 vs. Runa Kagoshima.

FROM HEAD COACH BRYAN MORROW
"I was very proud of the guys today, they were able to fight through some adversity and stay level-headed.  Findlay has some really nice players on their team who just never went away. The energy from our doubles matches carried over into our singles play and I was just very happy with the performance from the team today."
