MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (5-0) triumphed at Northwood University (3-5) 4-3 Saturday afternoon. The Green and Gold improve to 5-0 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
The Warriors went 2-1 to secure the doubles point.
In the No. 1 doubles position,
George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and
Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany / Altkönigschule Kronberg) fell 6-3 to Sergio Lopez Guillen and Alessandro Parigi.
Competing in the No. 2 slot,
Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England / King's Priory School) and
Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) earned a victory over Juan Perez Garcia and Max Wild 7-5.
Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) and
Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) had an impressive showing in the No. 3 doubles spot. The duo topped Finn Buschmaas and Luis Adrian Gomez Tinoco 6-0.
SINGLES
Each of the Green and Gold's top-three singles players were defeated as Drenth (6-2, 4-6, 0-1 [7-10]), Day (3-6, 6-7 [2-7]), and Klaus (5-7, 0-6) all fell.
Wasner earned a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 4 position, prevailing over Finn Buschmaas.
In the No. 5 singles spot,
Benjamin Hill triumphed over Juan Perez Garcia 6-1, 6-4, while Knowles topped Luis Adrian Gomez Tinoco 6-3, 6-0 competing in the No. 6 position.
