DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball team (12-14 overall) is set for its 2025 home opener. The Warriors will host Findlay (14-11 overall) on Tuesday at Harwell Field with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
WSU is coming off its first three GLIAC games of the season, a 2-1 record against Purdue Northwest, before the series finale was postponed due to inclement weather. Wayne State has 23 more games scheduled for the regular season, 20 of which will be in GLIAC play with the other three coming against Findlay. The Warriors and Oilers' next two meetings (4/8 and 4/29) will be at UF's Fifth Third Field.
Findlay is helmed by fourth-year head coach Matt Palm, who is 92-86 in those three-plus seasons. Prior to Findlay, Palm spent 23 years at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio where he coached for 15 seasons. Palm led the Student Prince, who were consistently ranked among the country's top 25, to a record of 459-209-2 (.685 winning percentage). They won five Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular-season championships, four OAC tournament titles and made six NCAA regional appearances, including a trip to the NCAA DII World Series in 2010.
This season, Palm's Oilers are hitting .262 with a team ERA of 6.07. Individually, starting on the offensive side, four players are above the .300 mark including Casey Maruniak (.356), Keelan Daniel (.324), Theo Winings (.309), and Luke Senften (.301). On the mound, UF's best pitcher has been Camdon Tuttle with a 0.61 ERA through 14 and two-thirds innings. Tuttle is one of four Oilers with a sub-4.00 ERA along with Sabastian Stevens (2.84 ERA, 6.1 IP), Jacob Howard (3.38 ERA, 5.1 IP) and JJ Harman (0.00 ERA, 2.0 IP).
