Softball Begins Florida Trip With Two Games On Both Saturday and Sunday.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball team will begin its spring break road trip with a pair of games on both Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9.  The Warriors have dropped their last five games to fall to 3-6 overall.

WSU begins Florida competition at 9 a.m. on Saturday vs. Ohio Dominican.  All 12 games are scheduled to be played at the Legends Way complex in Clermont, Fla.  The second game on Saturday will be the battle of Wayne State's as the Warriors will face Wayne State (Neb.) College at 11:30 a.m.

WSU will play Sioux Falls at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, followed by a 4:15 p.m. contest vs. Lake Erie College.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Senior designated player Rylie Josephson (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) leads the squad in batting at .577 (15-for-26) with three doubles and a .645 on-base percentage.  Freshman third baseman Katelyn DeWitt (Grand Blanc, Mich.) is hitting .483 (14-for-29) with two home runs and a team-leading 13 RBI, along with an .862 slugging percentage.  Junior Grace Fisher (Painesville, Ohio / Riverside [Notre Dame College]) has a team-best 2.49 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 25.1 innings with two complete games.  Head coach Nicole Tines is in her fourth season leading the Warriors.

LEADING THE PANTHERS
Ohio Dominican enters its Florida trip with a 4-6 record.  ODU will face Grand Valley State and Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, before battling WSU and Point Park on Saturday.  Sophomore Addie Triplett is hitting .500 (11-for-22) with a .600 on-base percentage, while senior Kaleigh Golden has a .471 batting average (16-for-34).  Junior Kendrick Sterling has a team-best 11 RBI.  Freshman Emma Grau has a team-leading 3.00 ERA with a 2-2 record and 17 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.  Marcella Vanlandingham is in her 30th year leading the Panthers.

LEADING THE WILDCATS
Wayne State College has a 7-7 overall record and plays twice on Friday (vs. Clarion and West Virginia Wesleyan) and once on Saturday (Salem) before the battle of Wayne State's.  Freshman Leah Chance is hitting a team-best .462 (18-for-39) with seven doubles, while sophomore Emilee Marth has a squad-high 11 RBI and is batting .357 (15-for-42).  Sophomore Taylor Coleman is 7-for-8 on stolen bases.  Senior Grace Lucka has appeared in six games totaling 18 innings with a 1.94 ERA.  She has struck out 28 and has a 1-0 mark.  Christy Warnock is in her third season as head softball coach at Wayne State College.

LEADING THE COUGARS
Sioux Falls has a 9-7 record and the contest against the Warriors will be its final in Florida as USF will play twice on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Junior Jaeleigh Darnell is hitting a team-best .467 (14-for-30) with nine extra-base hits and 11 RBI.  Freshman Savanna Isaacson leads USF with 19 RBI and is hitting .442 (23-for-52).  Senior Alannah Naumann has a squad-best nine stolen bases.  Junior Maddi Duncan has pitched a team-high 44 innings this spring with a 3.02 ERA and a 5-3 record.  She has struck out 56.  Erin Bly is in her second season at the helm of the Cougar softball program.

LEADING THE STORM
Lake Erie will take a 0-10 record into Sunday's game vs. Mankato, before facing the Warriors.  Junior Peyton Powers is batting a team-best .333 (7-for-21) with a .462 on-base percentage.  Senior CJ Garcia has a team-leading five RBI.  Freshman Addison Nugent (0-3, 9.38 ERA, 5 SO, 15.2) has the lowest ERA of any pitcher with at least seven innings pitched.  Shannon Schaub is in her first season as head coach of the Storm.  She played collegiately at Ashland and was an assistant at AU for eight years.
