Women's Outdoor Track & Field Has Strong Performances At Chippewa Challenge

4x100m relay won, while Olivia Findlay won the high jump and Peyton Hansen won the javelin.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field squad participated in the Central Michigan Chippewa Challenge on Saturday at the CMU Lyle Bennett Outdoor Track. Olivia Findlay won the high jump, while the 4x100m relay also took first. In addition, Peyton Hansen won the javelin.

"It's not often that you get a calm, sunny, 55-degree day in Michigan in mid-April, but we were very fortunate to have those weather conditions at Central Michigan, and we took advantage of it.

"Our relay teams continued to shine, with the 4x100 taking a narrow win and the 4x400 earning a season's best time. Elyse Miller was a standout on both, splitting one of the fastest relay times in WSU history on the 4x4. Peyton Hansen and Olivia Findlay got nice wins in the javelin and high jump, respectively, with Ava Steinhebel, Renae Kutcha, and Ania Toboy having a solid day in the field events as well.

"Megan Zahnow did a nice job in both hurdle races; Paige McArdle ran strong in the 3K; Anna Gdowski had a nice 800; and Tianna Bennett had a very good run in the 200. All in all, we saw a lot of consistency and good effort throughout the meet. They did not have official team scores, but scoring the meet on paper, we came out in second place behind the host Chippewas, and ahead of Western Michigan, Detroit Mercy, and the rest of the teams.

"The next two weeks are critical for us with the Oakland Elaine Leigh invite and a crew heading to California next week, and then a tune-up meet the following Friday as we prepare for the GLIAC Outdoor Championships."
