Softball Begins Stretch Run Of Eight Straight Road Games

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball squad (19-26 overall, 8-12 GLIAC) will play its final eight regular-season games all on the road against league opponents starting Saturday (April 19th) at Davenport.  First pitch is slated for noon.

SERIES HISTORY
WSU, after winning five of the first seven meetings, has dropped 15 of the last 21 match-ups in the series to trail 17-11.  The Panthers won twice earlier this season in Detroit (2-0 and 5-2 on March 21).  The Warriors are 3-9 all-time in Caledonia after snapping a seven-game skid at Farmers Athletic Complex with an 11-5 triumph in game two a year ago.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Senior Rylie Josephson (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) is batting .467 (21-for-45) on the season with a .556 on-base percentage.  Freshmen Katelyn DeWitt (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Elly Koopman (Hudsonville, Mich.) are batting .349 and .331, respectively.  Koopman leads the squad with 34 RBI, while DeWitt is tied for the team lead in both doubles (7) and triples (4).  Sophomore Logan Forman (Brantford, Ont.) has a team-high nine home runs and leads the squad with a .634 slugging percentage.

Junior Grace Fisher (Painesville, Ohio / Riverside [Notre Dame College]) leads the pitching corps with nine wins and a 3.60 ERA, while sophomore Sydney Long (Grand Blanc, Mich.) has five wins and two saves.  Both hurlers have 69 strikeouts to lead the team.  Junior Hayden Batton (Plainfield, Ind. / Avon) has recorded 46 strikeouts in 66 innings.

Nicole Tines is in her fourth season guiding the Warriors and has led WSU to 19 wins this year, second-most in the last six years.

LEADING THE PANTHERS
Heading into today's home doubleheader vs. Saginaw Valley State, Davenport is 17-23 overall and 8-12 in the GLIAC.

Senior Brooke Bernt leads the squad with a .337 batting average (28-for-83), while junior Ally Prasnjak has team-high totals of 11 doubles, four home runs and 25 RBI.

SOphomore Hailey Whisman leads the pitching corps with nine wins, 111.2 innings pitched and 67 strikeouts.  Freshman Hannah Tahaney has compiled a 6-8 mark with a 3.72 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 75.1 innings.

Davenport is guided by interim head coach Ronda Varnesdeel.

UP NEXT
Wayne State will play its final six games of the regular season next week starting with a doubleheader at Ferris State on Tuesday, April 22.
