ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University softball team (23-28 overall, 12-14 GLIAC) fell in a pair of contests at Grand Valley State University (26-24 overall, 17-11 GLIAC) on Saturday. GVSU claimed the first game 3-0 after notching one run in the second, followed by a tandem of runs in the third. The hosts triumphed 3-1 in the second game with two runs in the first and one more in the second.
GAME ONE RECAP
In the bottom of the second inning, after Eliana Eiland stole her team-leading 16th base, Grace Usher approached the plate and managed an RBI single to center field that allowed Eiland to score as GVSU opened the game's scoring.
The Grand Valley State offense made its biggest impact in the third, garnering four hits and adding 2 runs to the squad's total.
Wayne State was able to halt the host's scoring, holding the Lakers runless for the remainder of the contest.
In the top of the sixth,
Rylie Josephson (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) reached first base after being hit by a pitch. The ensuing batter,
Logan Forman (Brantford, Ont.), knocked a single to left field that advanced Josephson to second, putting her in scoring position.
Elly Koopman (Hudsonville, Mich.) singled to right field and pushed Josephson to third. Wayne State was unable to notch a run, leaving two runners stranded to close the top of the sixth.
Molly Hool (Allen Park, Mich.) and
Morgan Williams (Midland, Mich.) found their way on base in the top of the seventh inning.
Abby Barnes (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Northview) came in to pinch run for Williams, but the pair were stranded.
IN THE CIRCLE
Sydney Long (Grand Blanc, Mich.) (6-8) pitched three innings and allowed six hits and three earned runs.
Hayden Batton (Plainfield, Ind. / Avon) was on the mound for three innings, surrendered four hits, and walked two batters
Nevaeh Ingram (14-8) pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and hitting one batter.

Faith Edwards and Elizabeth Wesoloski both had two hits while six more GVSU student-athletes had one. Ingram, Morgan Spicer, and Usher all had one RBI.
GAME TWO RECAP
Similar the the opener, GVSU tallied the first runs of the contest, this time by a Wesoloski two-run home run in the bottom of the first. The Lakers added one more run in the third after Jasmine Mauk's sacrifice fly allowed Allyson Theunick to score.
After Forman reached first base due to a walk, Koopman knocked one to right field and sent the sophomore home for WSU's first run of the contest.
Neither team was able to notch a run in the final three innings, with a combined three hits and four runners left on base.
IN THE CIRCLE
Grace Fisher (Painesville, Ohio Riverside [Notre Dame College]) (11-10) pitched all six innings and allowed six hits, two earned runs, and walked one batter.
Karli Dorr (9-11) was the squad's hurler for all seven innings. The freshman surrendered three hits, two walks, one run, and struck out two batters.

Molly Hool all went 1-of-3 with Koopman driving in the lone run.
