WSU will face Parkside in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament.

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Wayne State University softball squad (23-30 overall, 12-16 GLIAC) closed out the regular-season portion of its 2025 schedule on Sunday at Purdue Northwest (14-32-1 overall, 8-19 GLIAC).  The host Pride snapped a 2-2 tie by scoring five times in the bottom of the fourth in the 7-5 victory.  PNW scored six times in the first inning and defeated the Warriors 12-4 in five innings in the nightcap.

GAME ONE RECAP
The Warriors took an early 1-0 lead just two batters into the contest on back-to-back doubles by senior Rylie Josephson (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) and sophomore Logan Forman (Brantford, Ont.).

PNW went ahead 2-1 in the third on a two-out, two-run double by Olivia Hernandez.

WSU tied it at 2-2 in the top of the fourth as senior Jessie O'Donnell (Campbellville, Ont.) had a leadoff double, went to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Katelyn DeWitt (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Molly Hool (Allen Park, Mich.).

Purdue Northwest tallied five two-out runs in the fourth to grab a 7-2 advantage.  Three consecutive bunt singles started the frame but a foul out and a strikeout kept the bases loaded with two outs.  A two-run single to right field by Darcy Barkauskas snapped the 2-2 deadlock.  On the very next pitch, Hernandez hit her team-leading sixth home run to make it 7-2.

Wayne State tallied one run in the fifth on a leadoff single by senior Mady Ruczynski (Richmond, Mich. / Armada) and a two-out RBI double by Elly Koopman (Hudsonville, Mich.).

The Warriors cut their deficit in half with a pair of runs in the sixth.  O'Donnell had a leadoff single and advanced to third when Molly Hool reached on a throwing error.  Both runners scored on a Pride fielding error.

The Pride added on to their lead in the second with four more runs.  A sacrifice fly by Kendall Adelmann, was followed by three unearned runs.
