Men's Tennis Prevails 6-1 at Michigan Tech

Houghton, Mich. -- The No. 20-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (12-5 overall, 3-1 GLIAC) topped Michigan Tech University (3-7 overall, 1-3 GLIAC) 6-1 on the road on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
WSU swept the Huskies in doubles competition, triumphing in all three matches.

The pairing of Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany / Altkönigschule Kronberg) and George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) downed the MTU duo of Vitor Jordao and Landon Coates 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles spot.

Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) and Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England / King's Priory School) added a win as well, defeating Leon Sell and Ian Pinnoo 6-4, as the doubles teams battled in the No. 2 position.

In the No. 3 slot, Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) and Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) completed the sweep by way of a 7-6 (7-5) win over Sarth Bansode and Laurent Teysseire.

SINGLES
Drenth continued his impressive campaign, as the senior earned a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win against Jordao in the No. 1 position.

Day and Wasner collected wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 slots respectively.  Day defeated Fenjiro 6-3, 6-3, while Wasner triumphed 6-3, 6-3 over Sell.

After losing in the first set 4-6, Knowles rallied back to top Coates 6-3, 6-3 in the second and third sets of the No. 4 singles position.

Klaus posted a 6-2, 6-0 win against Pinnoo, improving his ledger in the No. 6 slot to 5-0 on the season.

Hill, in the No. 5 position, was bested 2-6, 5-7 by Teysseire.

"Successful weekend, happy to get out of here with two wins against two good GLIAC teams.  The match today against Michigan Tech was a good hard-fought win, the guys did a good job of staying focused and getting the job done.  We are looking forward to moving on to the rest of the season."
