Four Softball Student-Athletes Receive Academic All-District Recognition

Fisher, Forman, Long and Ruczynski recognized for work in the classroom.

DETROIT -- Four members of the 2025 Wayne State University softball team received Academic All-District recognition today from the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) organization.  Honored for their work both on the softball diamond and in the classroom were junior pitcher Grace Fisher (Painesville, Ohio / Riverside [Notre Dame College]), sophomore catcher Logan Forman (Brantford, Ont.), sophomore pitcher Sydney Long (Grand Blanc, Mich.), and senior outfielder Mady Ruczynski (Richmond, Mich. / Armada).

Fisher made 29 appearances in the circle, including 19 starts.  She tossed a three-hit shutout of Kentucky Wesleyan in her WSU debut, and earned a win in relief vs. Sioux Falls.  Fisher recorded another victory in relief by throwing three scoreless innings vs. Indiana (Pa.).  She notched a season-high seven strikeouts in a win at Roosevelt-2, and earned an 8-3 victory over Saginaw Valley State-2 limiting the Cardinals to four hits in seven innings.  Fisher threw a season-high 159 pitches in a 7-5 triumph over Northwood-2.  She pitched a season-high 8.0 innings in a 5-4 victory over Grand Valley State-2.  WSU went 10-9 in her 19 starts.  Fisher posted a 1.99 ERA in 10 relief appearances totaling 24.2 innings with 25 strikeouts to five walks.  She compiled a 9-9 record as a starter with a 3.91 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 109.1 innings.  She won six straight decisions (3/19-4/4) tossing 43 innings with 43 hits allowed, 21 runs (19 earned), while totaling 22 strikeouts and 23 walks.  Her 241 flyouts generated were the fourth-most in the last 24 years by a WSU pitcher.  FIsher led the squad in wins (11), innings pitched (134.0), appearances (29), starts (19) and opposing batting average (.270).  An Exercise & Sport Science major, Fisher had a 3.80 grade-point average in her first two semesters at WSU.

Forman was the lone Warrior to advance to the All-American ballot.  A First Team All-GLIAC selection, she was the only WSU player to appear in all 56 games, making 53 starts 37 at C, 11 at DP, 3 at 2B, and 2 at SS).  Forman batted first through fourth and sixth, but usually first (28 times) or second (14 times).  She led the team with 14 multiple-hit games, including three three-hit affairs (4/4 vs. Grand Valley State-2; 4/13 vs. Parkside-1; and 4/22 at Ferris State-2) and tied for the team lead in multiple-RBI contests with seven, including a five-RBI game vs. Bemidji State.  Forman produced a WSU season-best 14-game hitting streak (3/19-4/4, 19-for-45 with 10 runs scored, 10 RBI, one double, one triple, four home runs and four walks).  She tied for WSU season-bests of two home runs and nine total bases (4/4 vs. GVSU-2).  Forman matched WSU season-best of 11 fielding putouts in a game twice (vs. Davis and Elkins, and Saint Michael's).  She led the squad with six game-winning RBI -- two-out RBI single in the third which snapped a scoreless deadlock in the season opener vs. Kentucky Wesleyan; RBI single against Bemidji State; solo home run vs. Ferris State-2 snapping a scoreless draw; walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth vs. GVSU-2; solo home run at Davenport-1 snapping a 0-0 tie; and an RBI triple in the top of the seventh at FSU-1.  Forman led the squad in slugging (.671), runs (38), hits (57), triples (5), home runs (11), total bases (112), walks (21), and fielding putouts (192), while tying for the team lead in doubles (12).  She ranked second on the squad in average (.341), on-base percentage (.408) RBI (36), and average with two outs (.383 / 18-for-47) and tied-for-second on the team in two-out RBI (15).  Forman batted .352 (19-for-54) with runners in scoring position.  She plated runner from third with less than two outs nine times in 10 chances.  An Exercise & Sport Science major, Forman maintains a 3.75 cumulative GPA after four semesters at WSU.

Long, who maintains a 3.75 cumulative GPA, while majoring in Sport Management, made 28 appearances in the circle, starting 18 times.  She tossed a WSU season-high 11.2 innings vs. Parkside (5/3) in the GLIAC Tournament.  Long struck out a WSU season-best 10 batters in a shutout vs. Saint Michael's to earn GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors.  She led the pitching corps in strikeouts/per game (4.79), strikeout/walk ratio (2.3), strikeouts (86), strikeouts looking (26) and ground ball outs (105).  Long notched a pair of saves - 2/14 vs. Davis & Elkins, and 3/28 vs. Roosevelt-Game 1 with two scoreless innings of relief.  She had a 10 inning pitching performance against Parkside (4/13-Game 1).  Long struck out nine batters twice - 3/21 vs. Davenport-Game 1, and 5/3 vs. Parkside.  She played errorless defense (3 PO, 23 A, 0 E) in compiling a 7-9 record with a 3.95 ERA.

Ruczynski was one of two players to start 55 games (all in CF).  She batted sixth through ninth, but usually ninth (21 times).  Ruczynski recorded 10 multiple-hit games, including two three-hit affairs (at Lincoln Memorial, and at Davenport-2), while notching five multiple-RBI contests, including a five-RBI game at DU-2, which matched a WSU season-best.  She had a two-out, three-run double in the first inning and a two-out, two-run double in the third inning.  Ruczynski posted an eight-game hitting streak (3/29-4/12, 9-for-24, with four runs scored, four RBI, two doubles and a home run).  She led all WSU outfielders with three assists.  Ruczynski smacked home runs in road games at Findlay-1, and Parkside-2.  She played errorless defense her last 26 games played and was credited with a season-high six fielding putouts in a 3-0 win over Winona.  Offensively, Ruczynski finished fourth on the team with 11 two-out RBI.  Academically, she will graduate with a 3.568 cumulative GPA while majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.  The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball 
honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the attached pages.

Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.  Student-athletes selected as 
CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. 
First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 17, 2025. 

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national 
governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® 
programs.  The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
