Former Warrior Brown Named American League Pitcher of the Month

Former Wayne State University hurler Hunter Brown (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) has been selected American League Pitcher of the Month for June.

Brown, who pitched for the Warriors from 2017-19 compiling a 14-3 record with a 3.33 ERA in 159.2 innings with 178 strikeouts, began July with a win in Colorado last evening over the Rockies.

According to MLB.com, Brown is the only qualifying pitcher with an ERA under 2.00 this season, thanks to a dominant June from the Houston right-hander.  He allowed just four runs all month in 30 1/3 innings (1.19 ERA, best in the AL) and capped the dominant stretch with seven scoreless innings and nine strikeouts to power a sweep of the Phillies.  After a hot second half in 2024, Brown's continued success earned him his first Pitcher of the Month Award.

Including last night's victory, Brown is 9-3 this year for Houston with a 1.82 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP in 104.0 innings.  He has struck out 126 batters in 17 starts in 2025 after notching 179 strikeouts in 2024.  His nine wins are just one behind MLB leaders Max Fried and Tarik Skubal., while his WHIP trails only Skubal for those with at least 102 innings pitched.  Brown's opponent batting average of .180 is the lowest in MLB, while his 13 quality starts trails only Logan Webb, who has 14 for San Francisco.

Not only was Brown a force on the mound, going 9-0 in his final campaign at WSU, he was on the Academic Honor Roll five times during his collegiate career as a Public Relations major, including a 4.0 term in his final semester in Detroit.
