WSU Football - 2025 Wide Receivers Preview

DETROIT -- Over the next four weeks, we will continue previewing each position on the 2025 Wayne State University football team with each position coach highlighting their respective units. This segment is the wide receivers preview with coach Jimmy Hill.

Only 11 percent of last year's receptions return, including a combined total of six by returning wide receivers. Redshirt senior Justyz Tuggle (Redford, Mich. / Detroit Central [Bethune-Cookman]) and redshirt freshman Kristian Kilpatrick (Fenton, Mich.) caught four and two passes, respectively in 2024.

Redshirt freshman Raymond Payne (Pontiac, Mich. / Lake Orion) appeared in three contests a season ago to retain freshman eligibility. Redshirt sophomore Jordan Bell (Benton Harbor, Mich. / St. Joseph) looks to make his collegiate debut as does redshirt freshman Donovan Isaac (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Waterford Mott).

Newcomers include graduate transfer Angel Carrillo (Livingstone College), junior college transfers Ja'Ron Glenn (Ventura J.C.) and Michael Jenkins, Jr. (College of the Desert C.C.), along with Drew Hickmott from the University of Michigan, and Mar'Tavion Robinson from Davenport.

Adding depth to the position are freshmen Malachi Evans (Flint, Mich. / Grand Blanc), Malek Farha (Ann Arbor Pioneer H.S.), Karter Freeman (Tomball, Texas / Klein Oak [Texas]), Hussein Hamie (Dearborn H.S.), Ali Hammoud (Crestwood H.S.), Joseph Lattimore (Linden, Mich.), Cecil Xavier Smith (Lakewood, Calif. / Lakewood [Calif.]) and Bishop Thomas (Mount Clemens, Mich.).

Wayne State begins fall practice on Monday, August 11th with the players reporting the weekend prior. The home and season opener will take place on Thursday, Sept. 4 with a 6 p.m. kickoff against the Tiffin Dragons. Both season and single-game tickets are available by clicking here.
