DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (7-1 overall, 1-0 GLIAC) kicked off league play on Friday night with a sweep of Saginaw Valley State (4-5 overall, 0-1 GLIAC) inside the Matthaei Center. The Warriors won in straight sets for the third match in a row and fourth instance in eight outings.
"It was a nice opening night of GLIAC play against our rival from Saginaw Valley State," said head coach
Tim Koth. "We're looking forward to another good match tomorrow against Lake Superior State."

HOW IT HAPPENED (-22, -22, -22)
- Wayne State hit .152 for the match with 38 kills and 21 errors on 112 total attacks.
- Saginaw Valley State countered with a .033 output including 31 kills and 27 mishaps on 120 swings.
- The Warriors' most efficient set was the third at .235 (14, 6, 34), while the Cardinals' was also the third at .133 (11, 7, 30).
- WSU has held three consecutive opponents and four on the season to a sub-.100 hitting percentage.

Kayla Giroux and
Paige Giehtbrock paced the Wayne State offense with 10 kills each.
- Those two finished with attacking efficiencies of .429 (10, 1, 21) and .161 (10, 5, 31), respectively.
- Also on offense,
Kayla Dulgar notched 33 assists and was the lone Warrior with multiple service aces (2).
- Giehtbrock,
Katie Smith and
Abby Macalaguim each tallied an ace as well.
- Defensively, thanks to a team-high 11 digs, Dulgar earned her fourth double-double of the fall and 24th of her career.

Kendyl Andrews also reached double-digit digs (10) and finds herself eight short of 1,000 for her career.
- Giroux was on top of the blocks department with four (one solo, three assisted).
- Dulgar and
Katerina Stout added three assisted blocks apiece.
