Tyrone Wheatley, who begins his third season with the Warriors, has announced his 2025 captains for the upcoming season.
The 2025 WSU captains will consist of senior
Elijah Fowlkes (Cleveland, Ohio / Cleveland Heights), redshirt senior
Angel Carrillo (Atascosa, Texas / Southwest [Univ. of Fort Lauderdale / Livingstone College]) and redshirt junior
Quincy Salter (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson).
Fowlkes will be on the defensive side of the ball, while Carrillo will be on offense. Salter was selected Special Teams Captain.
Fowlkes has played in 24 games in his three seasons with the Green and Gold, starting 21 times. He was the 2024 recipient of the Ron Solack Memorial "35" Award, which goes to the WSU football student-athlete who wears his Wayne State uniform with unmatched pride and plays the game with enthusiasm. Fowlkes, who started all 11 games at safety in 2024, tied-for-seventh in the GLIAC in assisted tackles (30) last season, and tied-for-11th in total tackles (61).
Carrillo joined the Warriors this summer as a transfer from Livingstone College. He played in 19 games for the Blue Bears over the last two seasons catching 47 passes for 695 yards and three touchdowns.
Salter has appeared in all 22 games over the last two seasons, making 48 tackles (21-27). WSU's nominee for the 2025 William Campbell Trophy, he saw action on kickoff return in 14 games, on punt coverage in six contests, on kickoff coverage in three games, and on punt return in two contests over the last two seasons.
Wayne State opens the 2025 campaign vs. Tiffin this Thursday at Tom Adams Field with kickoff slated for 6 pm.
