DETROIT -- Prior to 2024, no Wayne State University volleyball player had ever garnered CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-American honors. As of Jan. 13, 2026,
Kayla Giroux (Flat Rock, Mich.) has done so twice. Tuesday afternoon, Giroux was one of eight student-athletes in the country to be named to the First Team (Second Team in 2024) and 21 players when including all three teams.
"Kayla has been at an elite level both on the court and in the classroom," said head coach
Tim Koth. "A perfect 4.0 semester during this past season just validates that for her. I'm happy for her and proud of her ... she deserves this recognition."
Giroux carried a 3.99 cumulative GPA in Global Supply Chain Management and graduated in 3.5 years. Among the best in the country this year, the five-time All-American (AVCA x2, CSC x2, D2CCA) ranked 10th in hitting percentage (.391), 19th in points per set (4.68), 20th in total kills (447), 26th in kills per set (3.96), 33rd in total blocks (124), and 45th in blocks per set (1.10).
For the program's single-season record book, Giroux's 2025 campaign included the second-best mark in hitting efficiency (owns first and third place), seventh in kills per set and tied-for-ninth in kills. On the Warriors' career charts, the middle blocker is slotted first in hitting percentage (.372), second in kills (1,425), fourth in block assists (349), fifth in total stops (417), seventh in kills per set (3.26), and ninth in solo blocks (68).
As reliable as they come, Giroux played in all 116 of the team's matches (started all but two) and 437 of 438 possible sets in her four seasons as a Warrior. She is one of three student-athletes among the 21 selected this fall to have been honored multiple times along with East Stroudsburg's Anna Coulter and Nebraska-Kearney's Peyton Neff.
